The ongoing pandemic and related lockdowns and difficulties of international cooperation made very complicated conditions for the start of the Ukrainian-Swedish research center SUMEYA. Despite this, we got the first valuable results of our work. Thanks to the staff and up-to-date microscopic equipment of the SUMEYA Center, the paper “Morphological and Crystal-Chemical Features of Macro- and Microcalcifications of Human Aorta” was published in the official scientific journal of the Society of Microscopy of America – Microscopy and Microanalysis! (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/microscopy-and-microanalysis/article/abs/morphological-and-crystalchemical-features-of-macro-and-microcalcifications-of-human-aorta/10CA024C83BD10AF990D05A20186A5B6)
This journal has an Impact Factor of 4.12 and belongs to the 2 quartiles (Q2) in the Scopus. The publication was free of charge, but open access to the paper is significantly limited, links are allowed only to the resume, full-text access is possible only by subscription. In the paper, we provide a detailed characterization of macro- and microcalcifications of the aorta, their morphology and crystal-chemical composition comparison. On the basis of the data, we propose a classification of aortic calcifications which may be useful for clinic and diagnostics. Fundamental data on the size and shape of pathological biominerals makes it possible to calculate the required resolution of instrumental methods for early diagnosis and screening of complicated atherosclerosis.
